Interview Self Assessment
The
following self-evaluation is for Ahmed Al Hosani Id number H00003000. I took
part in an interview at Abu Dhabi Men’s College in classroom J24 on Tuesday
February 28th, 2012 between 1:15 and 1:35.
We
are going to now take an evaluative look at my performance during this
interview according to the criteria listed on the table in the task sheet. For starters, let’s first look at my
introduction. I believe that my opening could have been more welcoming
because I forgot to ask the candidate how he was on that day. However, I did
give my name and the position that I hold with the company and did likewise for
my colleague. I also feel I made the candidate feel welcome with a warm smile
and I maintained eye contact with him. Let’s
turn our attention to appearance. I was very much at ease in my local
attire. In retrospect, I realize I should have not folded my arms in the
presence of the interviewer as this tends to convey a negative image. Moving on to voice and language, I
realize that I should have spent more time either learning or memorizing the
questions because my delivery as an interviewer as a candidate were faulty. As
a result, I came across as not being so sure of myself and therefore I lacked
credibility. In terms of poise, I
did not fidget, but on occasion I did giggle. So, I am afraid that the
interviewer would think that I lacked seriousness and perhaps that might hurt
my chances of serious consideration for the job. Finally, as for preparation, I now understand that I would have
been much better off had I practiced a lot more so that my answers were much
more automatic. I am also conscious of the fact that it would have been useful
to have reviewed the video clips in class so that I could have produced better
quality answers.
To
sum up, I believe that as this was the first task for this course it was a
fairly adequate effort and I now realize that I have to take the preparation leading
up to my next performance more seriously.
